After a long day of cooking hundreds of meals for our humanitarian aid partners, the Kitchen becomes a space for the community to enjoy good company and good food — prepared by our top-notch chefs, of course.
The basement of Holy Trinity Brussels lights up, with our bar serving up cold drinks and guest performers taking the stage. These events help us raise funds for our battle against food insecurity among refugees and other vulnerable communities in the city.
Take a look at what we’ve been up to so far this year.
January — Ceilidh in the Kitchen
We welcomed The Hoggies, a Brussels-based Scottish ceilidh band, for our first event of the year.
A ceilidh is a lively traditional social event with Scottish music and dancing. The Hoggies taught us how to spin and reel like pros.
From veggie haggis to neeps and tatties, we served up classic Scottish dishes along with drinks from our bar. Guests left that night with full bellies and warm hearts.
February — Brussels Times Feature
The Community Kitchen was featured in the Brussels Times Magazine for our food bank and meal distribution programs. Volunteer Lola, Food Bank Coordinator Chris and Director Gayl were interviewed about their weekly work providing food to migrants in need.
“We’ve become a community that people come to join and find a safe space, do something useful and have access to food,” Gayl said.
March — Quiz Night
Trivia lovers donned their thinking caps and tested their knowledge at our March Quiz Night. Participants fueled their brains with food and drink from the Kitchen and bar, with all proceeds going toward our mission.
April — Impro Loves Books
Impro for Dummies brought the laughs, and we handled the food. The improv troupe graced the Holy Trinity Brussels stage and kept us entertained all night long.
May — Laverock Concert
Scottish folk trio Laverock swept us away with their beautiful harmonies and soulful storytelling. It was an evening of food, music and community in support of our mission to feed and care for the most vulnerable in Brussels.
June — Musical Charity Quiz Night
Dinner, drinks, music and trivia — our Musical Charity Quiz Night was a perfect way to let loose and work out your brain.
In between quiz rounds, we had performances by the Hot Air Ensemble, a 14-voice group, along with The Ladybirds bringing heartwarming renditions of Beatles classics and Triple Threat sharing their passion for musical theatre.
Thanks to those who gave their time to making our events a success and played a part in our fight against hunger.
We’re always looking for collaborators for events. If you have an idea and would like to support the Kitchen, contact us!
